Stockton outpost

Just thought I'd give an update on the Stockton outpost of the SLAC community garden...

I've been harvesting lettuce for several weeks now. It's great being able to just run out to the garden for lettuce whenever we need it -- latest example was for last night's tacos!

My tomatoes (Sun Gold) have been ripening over the last week. We used some in the tacos last night as well. The plants got attacked by aphids a few weeks ago, though, so they don't seem to be as big as they could be, but at least they're producing some tomatoes. I sprayed the plants with a solution of water and dishwashing soap and that seemed to help get rid of the aphids. Not quite organic, but not as toxic as the stuff they sell at Lowe's!

I harvested my first zucchini this morning and a big handful of green beans. Cucumbers look like they should be ready in a week or so!

Allyson is watering the Roma tomato plant.

Watering can take awhile. It takes my 45minutes if I am watering everything 'deeply'. Why it is nice to have my garden team! Anyway, someone has to keep an eye on thoses zucchinis!

Me, Doug, gardener, engineering physicist. what? Anyway, I guess I tend to dwarf anything around me. My trusty shovel - I am not apt to break this one. Wood-handle shovels suffer under my weight.

Same shot as in May of these tomatoes & Allyson. Lots of green ones & a few yellow ones to eat. It has been a cool June, otherwise this plant would be as tall as Allyson!

Way behind in this blog & photos/photo editing. Summer schedule can be quite busy. Camera 2 has many more photos. Having found a (free) photoalbum photo editing software that I like so far.

Planted two Artichokes & four tomato plants. Two of them are GermanGiants I got for free from Hans. The third GermanGiant I brought home - it is warmer in Milpitas, so more likely to succeed. The two others are a roma and ????..... I'll have to ask Hans again.

Planted my favorite (cough cough), Brussels Sprout in A1.

It is interesting to see how the various plants will grow. Artichokes are perenial. In theory, we let them produce, stop watering & let brown, cut down, start watering alot & get new plant. It will be interesting to try!

Allyson knows what to expect from her SunSweet Tomato plants in July & August! This is just the beginning!

Graeme is helping to water recently planted seeds. Behind him is the 'Rock Garden' area where we will grow perennial herbs.
